I’ve blogged this before which brings together a few different voice focussed projects.

2005 project was about Wimba, Audioblogging, not about podcasting.

Success of trials - it did work technically with liaison with IT support from the institutes. Target groups were selected that it was expected would benefit from it eg - trades and youth, esl, disability, in industry.
PC skills of student trial participants higher than they thought, relatively easy to train in use of voice tools.

Richer participation for auditory learners, low literacy etc. Saved time for students, not for teachers.

Conceptually tools not that much different to text version - email, board, chat, blog.

Question - reticence from people in using their voice? students clearly saw an advantage which probably outweighed any resistance. Some people find it hard to talk to a void, so have structured activities (same as a discussion space).
Good practice involves also supporting audio resources with text transcript. Does create an additional workload.
